10 Fun Indoor Physical Activities for Kids

The pandemic has totally rocked the world upside down. Especially for the kids, these times are much tougher than the adults. While the adults have survival concerns, the kids are losing their childhood and years to play outside locked up. For toddlers and kids under 10, it is important to have physical activities to build their strength and some other skills. However, with lockdown and no schools, there’s not much left to do for them. Due to this, it is important that parents actively participate in spending time with their children to have different kinds of activities. It will not only encourage family time but will also help the child engage in physical activities. Moreover, screen time will easily if the children will have something interesting to do. Following are some simple yet fun indoor physical activities that you can engage your child in. Get them moving and away from screens!

Dance Party

A dance party is literally the easiest indoor physical activity that every kid thoroughly enjoys. You don’t need to put any type of effort either into this activity. Just play some music on the TV and get the kids in the dancing mood. There are also children dancing videos on the internet which could motivate your children to do the same.

Push-up Challenge

Have a push-up challenge with your kid and make it look interesting. Children usually find activities interesting if it has their parents involved. To add up the spice, put a bowl of popcorns and keep it as a reward for each push-up. You will have to reach for popcorn by sticking out your tongue during the push-up.

Pillow Fight

Pillow fight does not need any detailed explanation. All the kids and the adults simply love pillow fights. However, be careful that you do not break anything while at it.

Obstacle Course

An obstacle course is quite easy to make. You can use the furniture around your home or simply use the cardboard and another packaging that comes with the parcels. If you have access to a safe street outside you can also use chalk to make it on the street.

Bubble Wrap Attack

Bubble wrap comes in with packages and using it for indoor physical activities is a great reusing idea. You can paste it on the floor using tape and let the kids walk and jump over it until all of it is burst. Bubble wrap with furniture is quite big and could give a good few minutes’ worths of activity to the kids. For the smaller pieces, there’s no need to paste on the floor and you can simply hand it to the kids to poke the bubbles and set up a challenge of who does it faster.

Balloon Challenge

Balloons are quite fun to play with. There are multiple games that you can play with balloons. The most famous balloon game is not letting the balloon touch the floor. It requires a whole lot of physical effort of running, jumping. The legs and the arms both get involved so it’s quite genius. Other than that catch the balloon is also an easy game to play.

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts around the apartment will make the kids excited and they would have to run and involve different body parts to find the clues. You can keep a simple reward at the end to make it interesting and keeping the kid enthusiastic for the next time.

Freeze Dance

Freeze dance is yet another very fun and quite popular activity. You play the music and ask the kids to dance/move, once the music stops everyone will have to get still. Whoever moves while the music is not playing loses.

Hopscotch is easy to play. It does not enhance physical movement but eyes and brain coordination skills as well. You can draw it on the street using chalk, or make it inside the home with anything that could be cleaned later on. It can be made from tape as well.

Clean-up on the timer

Last but not the least, clean-up in the given time slot is not just one of the physical activities but also a great way to teach the kids basic life skills. Set up the timer and ask the kid to complete the given cleaning tasks. Whoever finishes before or on the timer wins the challenge.

Bubble Poking

Making soap bubbles and asking the kids to catch and poke them is another one of the physical indoor activities that do not need a lot of space. You can play it even in the bathtub. However, be careful with all the soap water splashing on the water as it could become slippery.
