A clean house not only feels good but puts you in a better mood as well. Moreover, it is important from a hygiene perspective as well. However, the problem is that some places/things are not easy to clean and the chemical cleaners are expensive. Some people do not prefer to use chemical cleaning agents because of the health hazards that they may possess. Simple things around the house can serve as a great substitute in such cases. Lemon is one of this magical stuff. There are a lot of things and places for which you can use lemon as a cleaning agent. The process will not only be harmless but simple and fast as well.
To freshen up the fridge
Familiar with a weird rotten smell in the fridge? No need to buy any fancy stuff from the store. Simply use lemon to freshen up your fridge and make it smell nice. The trick is quite simple and you don’t have to put extra effort into it. Simply cut a lemon in half and keep it in the fridge facing upwards. Otherwise, you can also keep a cotton ball soaked in lemon juice. However, make sure to change the lemon/cotton every week otherwise the fridge will start smelling like rotten lemon.
To clean the microwave
Terrified of all those hard greasy stains in the microwave? Don’t worry, lemon combined with steam do the job. Squeeze a lemon in a bowl of water and put it in the microwave. Set the timer for 3-5 minutes on the highest temperature setting and let the lemon water cook. After that let the microwave cool down for minutes or more and then wipe it off from the inside using a microfiber cloth. It will not loosen up the buildup of food but will also remove nasty odors.
To clean the wooden cutting boards
Wooden cutting boards look aesthetically pleasing but are not as easy to clean as the regular plastic ones. However, lemon makes the job easy. Sprinkle some salt on the board and scrub it off with a half-cut lemon. Eventually, you will notice all the food stains disappearing. Moreover, lemon will also remove any sort of odor of meat or onions, etc from the board.
To clean the cheese grater

A cheese grater is one of the most difficult appliances in the kitchen to clean. The cheese gets stuck in between the tiny grating holes and cleaning those is not easy obviously because of the sharp edges. However, use lemon as a cleaning agent to easily clean it. Cut a lemon in half and rub it on both sides of the grater, the acidic properties of lemon will melt off any residue of protein and fat from the cheese. Then run it through warm water for a sparkly clean cheese grater!
To clean the kettle
Kettle gets the worst and toughest type of stain due to the strong color of tea powder/leaves. Cut a lemon in half and rub it on the insides of the kettle. Then fill some water and boil the other half piece, letting it simmer for a while. All the tough stains will clean off without aggressive scrubbing. Rinse the kettle for the perfect finishing of the task!
To clean the toilet bowl
Lemon as a cleaning agent in the washroom, who can imagine? Not anything too unusual and quite pocket-friendly as well. Sometimes the stains in the toilet bowl are too tough and hard to clean. Sprinkle some salt and squeeze lemon in the bowl. Then scrub it off using the toilet brush. It will clean all the stains and remove any sort of smell as well. You can also add baking soda for an even strong stain buster mixture.
To remove limescale
Limescale builds up on taps and walls in the bathroom and around the sink. Those are quite aggressive stains and are not at all easy to clean. However, lemon makes it easy just like all the other tough stains. Pour some baking soda on the limescale and rub it with a lemon. Or if you are not in a mood for such physical effort, make a mixture of lemon and water and spray it on the marks. Leave it for a while and then wipe it off.
To clean glass or mirror
If you don’t have the glass cleaning agent and need it urgently, don’t panic and simply use lemon as a cleaning agent. Rub the lemon on the glass or mirror and clean it off. Or you can spray the lemon water mixture as well and wipe it off with a soft cloth.
To clean the garbage disposal
After using the lemon as a cleaning agent around your house, discard it in the garbage. It will deep clean the garbage disposal and remove all the build-up nasty odors as well.
