Katie Hopkins recently posted a video on social media. She was boasting about how smartly she broke the rules of hotel quarantine in Sydney. The Australian government took notice and has ordered an investigation.
Big Brother VIP from Seven Network Ltd is a reality tv show that originates from Sydney. Katie Hopkins flew in to appear on the show. However, she posted a video on social media receiving room service naked and without a mask while in quarantine at a hotel.
Australia has strict Covid-19 SOPs to ensure a safe environment for the citizens. International travelers are supposed to quarantine for two weeks in a hotel before continuing with their regular visit routine. During the hotel stay, it is important that they put on a mask and wait for 30 seconds before receiving room service. The government does not take any of its rules lightly and that is why the cases are under control there.
Even though the video is now removed, the Australian authorities already took notice. They are now investigating the whole matter and also considering if Hopkin’s visa should remain valid or not.
Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews mentioned, “It is despicable that anyone would behave in such a way that puts our health officials and community at risk”. Andrews has also involved Australian Border Force. She has asked them to investigate the case and check if Katie is fulfilling the visa requirements.
The spokesperson of Seven Network put out an email and informed that Katie Hopkins did not appear on Big Brother VIP. Her careless behavior was also condemned and was not appreciated at all. In short, she was kicked out from the show because of her ‘joke’.
Is Katie Hopkins always this controversial?
Katie Hopkins is pretty famous for her controversial comments and statements. In the past as well she has been a part of multiple controversies both political and personal. British media has talked about her multiple times over her questionable comments. From comparing migrants to cockroaches to blaming dementia patients for ‘blocking’ the beds Hopkins has always been problematic. The picture of a Syrian boy lying on the seashore was also staged as per her. Moreover, she has been constantly speaking inappropriately against the Black Lives Matter movement. She has a problem with almost everyone including the British government over their plan of free meals to children in the holiday season.
The general public also shows huge backlash against Katie Hopkins’ views and beliefs. Even though she is a public figure and has a larger responsibility, she acts recklessly. Her most recent video taking SOPs as a joke has made the entire pandemic a joke.
Her attitude in Sydney makes her attitude towards serious issues much more questionable. Australian police conducted a thorough investigation to check her visa credibility. Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce openly challenged deporting anyone who does not follow the rules of the state. During his statement, he also reminded his threat of euthanizing Johnny Depp’s dogs for breaching biosecurity back in 2015.
“If you want to do that, pack your bongo and get out of the country,” Joyce said to the Australian Broadcasting Corp.
